1. Health Care
– Still the #1 Field – because of the aging Baby Boom population, and the influx of immigrants into the population. Here are two jobs to check out.

Patient Advocates or Health Care Co-ordinators
They help people who are too ill to manage their own health care, to find the right doctors, make appointments, understand and make the best choices to manage their diagnosis.

Patient advocacy services facilitate the relationship between individuals and their health care providers–from locating the best doctors and specialists, to researching treatment options and handling insurance claims.

Health Informatics Specialists
These workers are trained to digitize medical records and use computerized expert systems.
They help organize medical offices, saving space, and making it easier to access files.
Yes, many doctors’ offices, with files stacked to the ceiling, are still unable to catch up with organizing their filing systems into a digitized format.
If you can offer this service to them, you’ll have a job that will employ not only yourself, but others whom you can train to work with you.




2. Digital Careers
Data Miner
Data Mining is knowledge discovery from data. It has attracted a lot of attention because of the practical applications ranging from market analysis, fraud detection, production control and scientific exploration.

For example, information compiled on customer buying behavior, can predict or explain buying patterns. This tells businesses what will sell and how to individualize their marketing plans to target and retain customers.

3. INTERCULTURAL SPECIALISTS
More and more people are working on overseas assignments. As the Global-International workplace expands, qualified, culture-sensitive people are needed to oversee collaborations in innovations and market research, partnerships and joint ventures.

Asian Business Development Specialists
They help US and overseas business managers successfully communicate across cultures to arrange win-win joint ventures, licensing arrangements, finance deals and partnerships in the countries of the Asian world.

Offshore Managers
They are able to negotiate the changes, challenges and opportunities of on-site management in places like India and China, or near-shore management in Mexico or South America. Home-shore projects co-ordinating and managing American workers who work from home, also come under their expertise.

Immigration Specialists
There are now 38 million immigrants in the US, and if the trend continues they will account for 82% of the population by 2050. Consequently, the demand is growing for knowledgeable specialists who can advise business, on how to market to this population. Schools are also seeking help in meeting the needs of the masses of children of these immigrants, who are flooding into the school districts. Hospitals, the criminal justice system, and government agencies will soon be looking for bilingual and bicultural workers to meet the demand for services, to these populations.


4. Clinical Genomics

In 2007, mapping the human genome, to discover genetic predispositions to disease, cost one million dollars. It now costs $5,000 per person, and is predicted to decline to $100 in 5 years. This will require the reinvention of psychology, education and the medical field, as new careers in the fields of Biology and Genetics are introduced.

Genetics Engineers
Genetic engineering uses the techniques of molecular cloning and transformation to directly alter the structure and characteristics of an organism’s genes. They are involved in improving crop technology, the manufacture of synthetic human insulin through the use of modified bacteria, the production of new types of experimental mice for use in research.

Computational Biologists
These specialists apply the techniques of computer science, applied mathematics and statistics to deal with biological problems. The main focus is on developing mathematical modeling and computational simulation techniques. This allows scientific research on theoretical and experimental questions to be done without a laboratory.

Behavioral Geneticists
These well-trained professionals develop ethical gene-related therapies. They call on knowledge in the fields of genetics, ethology and psychology. Current research in this field is studying psychiatric disorders such as – schizophrenia, bipolar disorder and alcoholism, in the light of the contributions of such factors as: parenting styles, developmental psychopathology, and emotional traits such as self-control, attachment, social functioning, and so on.

5. Environmental Careers
The trend towards greening everything from sales to accounting, to making green products, has propelled the initiative for green-collar workers. These workers offer a green-oriented approach to work as government regulators, fundraisers, even environmental litigation work.

In an environment where engineers are working on developing hydrogen powered cars, more efficient solar cells, and natural fuels, the need for green-collar workers is expanding. Look at these jobs:

Solar Roof Installers – The more of these workers are available, the easier it will be for us to install solar roofs. This is still a very new industry.

Green Contractors – These are needed to drive the adoption of green building practices, and make it more affordable to build homes that consumers want.

Green Land Use Planners – Their environmental awareness and guidance make it easier for us to protect valuable ecological habitats. Consumers are demanding a reformation in land use, supporting smart growth and sustainable cities, that are built within the ecological limits of the landscape.

Energy Efficiency Experts – As the alliance to save energy grows, the demand for alternative sustainable energy sources is looking at using solar and wind power. Experts are needed to make this happen.

Specialists in Ecotourism – They offer hotels, resorts and other hospitality-related companies, an alternative to satisfy the changing expectations of environmentally conscious tourists. Today’s travelers want to enjoy that extra dimension to their vacations, which offers an experience that protects the environment, supports local communities, and respects indigenous cultures.
